History
Computers for Everyone started in the garage of East Palo Alto resident Court Skinner in 2005. Court’s idea was to help bridge the digital divide in East Palo Alto and East Menlo Park, communities with limited access to technology.
OUR MISSION
The mission of Computers for Everyone is to enable our underserved communities to access the digital world through affordable education, equipment, connectivity, and support.
OUR VISION
The vision of Computers for Everyone is to empower East Palo Alto and East Menlo Park residents to assimilate the online world into their daily lives. Through education and exposure we hope that the residents will access opportunities throughout Silicon Valley.
OUR GOALS
To provide our local community access to:
- On-the-job technician-level computer training for interns/volunteers and digital literacy classes for community members
- Put reused computers in the hands of community residents
- Provide a base level of connectivity at an affordable price
- Provide affordable onsite and walk-in tech support performed by Computers for Everyone interns
OUR FUTURE PLANS
Now part of the East Palo Alto Digital Village initiative, a consortium of community nonprofits and public agencies, Computers for Everyone will help underserved communities to become active participants in the digital age
Additional Project
In 2008, we partnered with East Palo Alto’s Digital Village to help bring broadband and internet connectivity to East Palo Alto and East Menlo Park residents through the WiFi 101 project. At this time our technicians are helping to maintain a FREE wireless network that is available to the residents of the community.
Computers for Everyone was started by a community member. It helps organizations as well as residents in the community, and most importantly it is kept running by members of the community.
